Schools feedback

Greengates Primary School
Stockhill Road Greengates, Bradford, BD10 9AX
Dear Peter,
I am writing to thank you for visiting Greengates Primary and inspiring our children with the presentation on your 'Mokee Joe' books.
The reason we invited you into our school was to raise standards in writing, especially for boys. One important factor in boys' achievement is motivation and we know that if we could enthuse our boys, we would see raised standards. We felt that inviting an author to school to talk about their work would be an exciting way to do this. I knew that you would be a big hit with our pupils because you had visited my daughters' school, St Joseph's Primary in Keighley and she asked to buy the Mokee Joe books (which we have both read) and described your lively presentation in great detail.
Following the visit, we used one of your suggestions for a story starter in our weekly extended writing sessions. We then assessed the the writing according to national curriculum levels and can report a significant improvement in the standard of children's work compared to previous assessments. In addition, comments from children such as 'I was thinking about what I will write all last night' and 'I've got so many ideas for my writing, I can't wait to get started' are good indications of your visit.
I do hope that you can be persuaded to visit Greengates at some time in the future and excite and inspire our young writers again. You demonstrated the writing process in a fun way in your lively presentation as well as promoting enjoyment of reading. We will use the sets of books we bought for school to enhance our library which will stimulate interest for many children.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Patricia Gavins
Headteacher
